Remember to Vote Independent Vote Parker on May 5th

Hello,

You have 2 votes for the Cheshire East Council on May 5th, your vote makes a difference!

Remember the following points:

  • Macclesfield plans to allocate a disproportionately large share of new housing in Crewe was supported by local Tory Councillors.
  • The Tory majority on Cheshire East Council is 58 or a ratio of 2 to 1. This unfair balance of power can only be redressed through the ballot box.
  • This unhealthy majority has resulted in higher car parking charges and a proposed 25% hike in the rents for our market traders with no opportunity for sensible negotiation and all fully supported by local Tory Councillors
  • Your Council tax has been kept low due to a grant from central government and has nothing to do with Cheshire East! Meanwhile, the Tory Council have depleted your reserves!
The only way to get your Council to listen to the concerns of local people and our small businesses is by changing the balance of power within the Council chamber and voting the incumbent Tories out!

Remember, vote Parker, vote Independent on May 5th!

Reasons to Vote Independent on May 5th!

Hello,

Wistaston residents will have received the latest version of ‘Intouch’ messages from the Tories.

Let us look at the facts:

  • Closing down information points and toilet facilities is referred to by Tory candidates as improving frontline services.
  • A government grant ensured no increases in Council tax meanwhile our Tory dominated Council has squandered your reserves!
  • Providing for vulnerable elderly people means increasing Council transport charges by 100% with similar increases in care charges.
  • Improving facilities for young people by raising University tuition fees to £9000 per annum.
  • Maintaining the green gap by nodding through Macclesfield plans to build a disproportionate number of new homes locally in the vicinity of Crewe.
  • Working in partnership with the Police to reduce their numbers and pay and working conditions.
  • Ensuring a fair share of Council resources for all people with a Macclesfield post code!
  • Tackling the national budget deficit with a £650 million apology to Pakistan and a £6 billion payment to prop up the Euro!
  • Claiming an electoral system that gives the Tories 47% of the seats with just 36% share of the vote is fair and justifiable!
As an Independent I can challenge Macclesfield policy on behalf of Wistaston residents, without being deselected for voting against the Tory Cabinet and so can Labour’s Tom Dunlop.

On May 5th please vote Independent, vote Parker
Remember, you have 2 votes!

Mast Approval by Tory Cheshire East Undemocratic

Hello,

The 'phone mast on Coppenhall Lane was approved by Council Officers without reference to the planning committee. The 56 days notice period should be sufficient time for the application to be processed through the proper channels.

Had the application been decided by committee the impartiality of a committee member would have already been jeopardised due to her presence in a press photo alongside objectors to the mast.

The applicant for the mast would then have grounds for a successful appeal based on our representative holding a prejudicial pre-determined interest.

In order to install democracy in Cheshire East we all need to vote against the Tory candidates on May 5th!

No democracy in Cheshire East

Hello,

Local residents feel they have not received adequate consultation over the proposal for a telecoms mast in Coppenhall Lane.

Furthermore, the application is to be decided without a meeting of the planning committee. Such a contentious issue should be fully discussed in committee after a satisfactory period for public consultation has elapsed.

The protest by Conservative Councillors and residents would have had more impact if they had invited all the Ward Councillors and prospective candidates from opposition groups as has happened on previous protests against contentious planning issues.

Resident whom wish to comment on the proposal for a mast are invited to write to:

Charging for care services out of control

Hello,

I feel we have a moral obligation to help the elderly and most vulnerable people in society. The Cabinet's decision to increase the flat rate charge per one way trip to a day care centre from £2 to £4, an increase of 100%, is most regretable.

Residential and nursing care charges have also increased by between 10% and 20%. whilst  short term family based care has soared by over 300%. Is this fair?

 http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/pdf/Charges%20&%20Transport%20Changes.pdf

Huge increases to charges penalise people who pay for their care, these unfair increases are a stealth tax on thrift!

Growing our visitor economy & protecting frontline services!

Hello,

Plans are being put in place to grow our visitor economy in Cheshire East by £165 million creating 1,300 new jobs. By attracting new visitors and tourists local small businesses can grow helping to accelerate economic regeneration after the worst recession for a generation.

Close proximity to the motorway network and the revamp of Crewe Railway Station implies Crewe & Nantwich has every opportunity to grow economically. Our local region should benefit immensely from any future upturn in the economy  bringing new prosperity to our communities.

Therefore, it is imperative that we protect the frontline services that a vibrant new visitor economy will depend on. Our libraries, civic centres and information points are all important to our future prosperity. Closing any of these support services would be false economy in the long term.

Furthermore, after one of the harshest winters on record the repair of our roads should always be a major priority. The additional central government funding of £1 million is a big help but ideally it should have been made available much sooner to avoid further deterioration in the condition of our roads.

AV removes the inherent bias of the FPTP system

Hello,

Following on from the previous post the first preference votes were cast as follows:
Gold    Silver     Bronze     Zinc      Tin

  3           2             2               1           0

Under AV if a candidate receives 50% of first preference votes they are automatically elected, otherwise the candidate with the least votes (eg Tin) is eliminated and other preference votes then obtain equal status with first preference votes. In this example, Tin received zero first preference votes, so in order to invoke second preference votes 'Zinc' is also eliminated.

Zinc was the first preference of elector G so we take G's second preference vote which is Silver and add this new vote to our tally. The results are now as follows:
Gold    Silver     Bronze
3           3             2

Bronze has the least votes and is now eliminated.  Electors F and H chose Bronze as their first preference and their second preferences are Tin and Zinc respectively which have both been eliminated. Looking at the third preferences of F and H we notice they both voted for Silver so we add these 2 votes to our tally. The results are now as follows:

Gold     Silver
   3            5

So, Silver wins the election under AV with 62.5% of the preference votes. Notice how 5 voters D,E,F,G, and H or 62.5% of the electorate have all voted for Silver as one of their top 3 preferences. Therefore, under AV, a majority of the electorate see their votes counted towards the final outcome. The majority of voters can all claim to have had some involvement in the selection of the winning candidate.

AV gives more democratic power to the electorate and makes politicians work harder in order to win. Winning candidates have to broaden their appeal in order to win the preference votes required to get elected.

Finally, look at the Gold candidate the first preference votes of electors A, B and C and the election winner under FPTP with 37.5% vote share. The Gold candidate exemplifies the current position of Labour or Conservative in an election. Notice how, in our hypothetical example, none of the other electors D through to H chose Gold as one of their preferences! The ideological beliefs of our largest political parties acts as a natural constraint towards widening their appeal.
